OUR FIRST FULLY-ELECTRIC GRAN COUPÉ.

The BMW Group is ushering in a new era with its pure electric Gran Coupé, the BMW Concept i4. The electric drive train has arrived at the heart of the brand – heralding a new age of sheer driving pleasure.

For all those eagerly awaiting the start of BMW i4 production, the BMW Concept i4 provides a glimpse of the brand’s first fully-electric Gran Coupé. BMW unveiled its new brand design for the first time at a digital press conference on 3 March.

The BMW Concept i4 delivers typical BMW driving dynamics in a totally new form, combining a modern and elegant sporty design with the spaciousness and functionality of a four-door Gran Coupé that even drives locally emission-free. The BMW Concept i4 already showcases a number of design elements that will be found in the BMW i4 and other electrically powered production vehicles. Adrian von Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design, sums up: “The design is dynamic, clear and elegant: fitting for an emotive electric vehicle and our BMW values.”

It is not just the design that shapes the vehicle's character; its sound also has a profound impact. It was developed in collaboration with none other than Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, whose Hollywood film scores have reached an audience of millions. Working with BMW sound designer Renzo Vitale, he created a unique and visionary sound. From driving sounds to the acoustic signal that accompanies opening the door: The sounds are varied, surprising, light and transparent – and give the BMW Concept i4 an added emotional depth.

The user interface of the Curved Display boasts three newly-developed Experience Modes. The modes “Core”, “Sport” and “Efficient” are optically different from one another – also in how the interior is staged. Ambient light in the dashboard, doors and indirectly under the display signal the adjustments made to the vehicle technology. The driver selects their personal preferences for each Experience Mode and can choose between various formats and functions in the display.
