ABOUT THE FINANCIAL YEAR

Walter
Mertl
Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Finance

In 2025, the BMW Group once again demonstrated its resilience and strategic consistency in a challenging global environment. Tariffs, currency developments and intense competition – particularly in China – shaped the year and demanded both flexibility and discipline from our organisation.

Thanks to our strong global footprint and our attractive product portfolio, nearly 2.5 million customers worldwide chose a vehicle from the BMW Group. Our electrified vehicles are a foundational pillar in our strategy, with more than one in four vehicles delivered being either all-electric or a plug-in hybrid. In Europe, our fleet CO2 emissions once again outperformed regulatory requirements – underscoring our commitment to sustainable mobility.

Financially, we delivered solid results. The Automotive segment achieved an EBIT margin within our target range, and at Group level we maintained a stable EBT margin of 7.7% year-on-year. On a Group level, we generated more than € 10 billion in profit before tax. Without the burden of higher tariffs, both Group EBT and Automotive EBIT would have exceeded the previous year’s levels.

A decisive success factor in 2025 was our consistent cost discipline. As planned, we significantly reduced research and development expenditure and investments from their respective peak levels of 2024 and drove additional cost savings – without compromising our long-term competitiveness.

Early strategic investments, operational excellence and a strong financial foundation leave the BMW Group well positioned for the years ahead. As we launch the NEUE KLASSE product offensive and roll out its technologies across the entire portfolio, we will continue to create sustainable value for all stakeholders. I wish you an inspiring and informative read of the BMW Group Online Report.

Yours sincerely, Walter Mertl
