The BMW Group is supporting the authorities in the fight against coronavirus.

People starting their BMW or MINI in Australia or Dubai around Easter saw a friendly message on their display asking them to stay at home if possible. The message read: “BMW Group encourages you to follow the government’s advice to enjoy your time indoors this long weekend.” It continued: “We wish you and your family a happy and peaceful Easter.”

The BMW Group reached more than 46,000 BMW and MINI drivers in Australia alone in this way and a further 30,000 in Dubai. There, the police had asked the BMW Group’s Regional Office for its support at the end of March. In order to curtail the spread of coronavirus, the city authorities had worked 24/7 to disinfect all streets and public buildings. The police wanted to use every available channel to reach citizens and ask them to stay at home during that time. The display screens in the BMW Group vehicles are one such channel.

The BMW Group engineers were able to support the authorities in their fight against coronavirus with just a day’s notice. This was possible via the recall function of ConnectedDrive, displaying the message on the vehicle's centre-mounted screen when it was started.
