A group of people standing around a man.

Drive Programme.

Targeted introductory programme for new employees to help get your career off the ground.

The best way to start your future.

Drive Programme.

The BMW Group is a global company with more than 115,000 employees in over 140 countries. That is why Drive provides all newcomers with a quick overview of the entire BMW Group organisation, its divisions as well as its processes. You will get to know products, brands and people in depth right from the beginning and will be able to quickly build up your own network.

When does the Drive Programme start and who is it for?

You can't apply directly for Drive. The programme will accompany you, in consultation with your future department, in your first 12 months 'on the job', i.e. when you have already taken on responsibility in a specific role. This means that everyone who has successfully passed the BMW Group recruitment process is automatically entered into the Drive programme.

What is the content of the programme?

You can make a significant contribution to the design of your programme. This is because participants sign up for the individual components of their choice. Components include:

  • Diverse onboarding events with senior business representatives in order to learn about BMW Group processes and to develop an interdepartmental understanding of these
  • Work experience in the production department in order to gain practical experience with the cars themselves
  • Work experience with major interface partners in order to better understand corporate processes
  • Various other offers depending on your field
  • In addition, you will have the opportunity to broaden your horizons and get to know managers from many different departments at various Drive events.

ProMotion PhD Programme.

We provide both financial and technical support for three years while you complete your doctoral thesis.

Shape your passion into a career.

With our ProMotion programme for PhD students.

Bridging the gap between your doctoral studies and the kind of career challenge you’re looking for isn’t always easy. That’s why our ProMotion programme gives you the opportunity to apply your passion and scientific expertise to very real challenges, which could help shape the future of mobility. If selected, you’ll have the chance to really develop your own future career path with us through your practice-related thesis, promote your chosen specialty from within – and position yourself to secure the career you’ve always wanted. With us as a partner, you’ll also benefit from attractive financial support, excellent training and development opportunities, plus the dedicated support of an expert personal mentor if you so wish.

Programme contents in detail.

Getting started.
An introductory event will tell you all about ProMotion, our company and the people who will be accompanying you during the three years.

Events and fireside chats.
You can get an insight into the company and networking opportunities in forums and lectures, or fireside chats with BMW executives.

Qualifications.
Your department will provide support in technical matters and provide necessary specialised training. In addition, all ProMotion participants receive multidisciplinary qualification that counts towards personal development.

Practical and orientation assignments.
An assignment in the production division or customer service department will give you first-hand experience of our products and customers. Two other orientation assignments in related departments will help you network, gain a better understanding of the BMW Group and complete your work experience. The practical assignments can also be completed abroad if agreed with the manager.

ProMotion Dialogue Day.
A doctoral candidate fair is held once a year, the ProMotion Dialogue Day. This is where doctoral candidates present their topics to the general BMW community and representatives of the supervising universities, engage in dialogue and thereby continue to bridge the gap between science and business.

BMW Group research colloquium.
Once a year, a number of doctoral candidates have the opportunity to present their thesis to a distinguished audience as part of the BMW research colloquium.

BMW Group doctoral candidate group.
As a ProMotion participant, you will be part of a scientific network. The doctoral candidate group, an initiative of BMW Group doctoral candidates, is a platform for sharing professional experience as well as for building up social, interdepartmental contacts.

Automotive PhD Network.
This group serves as a networking platform for current and former doctoral candidates who have completed, or are in the process of completing, their thesis as part of an industrial PhD at an automotive manufacturer or supplier. Its goal is to provide a platform for sharing knowledge and experience.

Programme contents at a glance.

Infographic illustrating the Promotion programme modules.

Requirements and applications.

Your application should reach us four months prior to your desired start date at the latest. Please apply online only. Before signing the contract, all essential questions about your PhD should be clarified with the supervising professor and the BMW specialist department.

General conditions and doctoral candidate contract.

As a participant of the BMW Group ProMotion programme, you will receive a doctoral candidate contract with a term of three years, and will receive support in the amount of 2,600 euros gross per month.

Your contact for general questions about the ProMotion programme and the acceptance process is the programme director. Your specialist contact will be your departmental supervisor, with whom you will meet once a year to discuss the progress of your thesis and your personal development. You also have the option of a personal mentor as a contact and coach.

After a successful promotion, you can apply to BMW internal job adds worldwide. Taking part in the programme, you have the best possible chances to start a professional career at the BMW Group.

Car Salesperson Programme.

Share your passion for our products with customers.

Get on your own road to success.

Our car salesperson programme.

Not many car brands inspire people the way BMW or MINI do. But the success of our cars on the market also depends on how enthusiastic our salespeople are.
If you can make others feel how much you love BMW or MINI, that's a great start. If you can work in a performance and success oriented way and are a people's person, that's even better. This is because the key to success in this career is the ability to continuously adapt to customers' personalities, lifestyles, interests and desires. It means you can give customers the best support throughout their decision-making process, give them professional advice and ultimately convince them they have made the right decision.

We will provide everything else you need to excel. We offer a training scheme for beginners with or without initial professional experience which is the only one of its kind in this industry: the BMW Group car salesperson programme. This modular salesperson training programme is considered continued or further education (not an apprenticeship) and gives salespeople advanced qualifications in a short time.

Application requirements.

You will have completed your commercial and/or technical professional training, or completed your degree, and ideally have initial professional experience. For example, you may have completed vocational training as a car salesperson.

In addition, you will be enthusiastic, love working with people and be able to empathise well with their lifestyles, interests and desires. If this is you, we look forward to receiving your application!

Programme contents: modular and individual.

The programme is modular and lasts for a maximum of twelve months. This means we can respond to you at your individual entry level alongside any professional experience you may have, develop your strengths in a targeted way and give you precisely the information and skills that are important to you. Generally, new starters progress through all modules. Starters with professional experience make their own way, tailored to their skill level, through the programme.

Introductory training.
This is where all entrants are brought up to a certain level of knowledge, particularly in product knowledge. This is done via our in-house training platform or the one-week BMW STARTER introductory training programme for junior salespeople. After that, you will be familiar with the BMW brand and the steps of the sales process, the product lines and the BMW technologies most important for sales. You will now be able to conduct your first consultations.

Basics.
The two-week BMW BASIS module forms the core of the training programme. The aim of the BASIS training programme is for you to not only learn the content, but also to be able to put it into practice. You will get to know the essential consultation techniques, amongst other things, and will be able to apply them directly to every step from initial contact to delivery. On completion of your BMW BASIS training programme, you will demonstrate your expertise in an exam and an oral test.

Advanced modules.
In the advanced modules, salespeople will be able to expand and extend their existing skills and proficiencies as needed. In these modules, we work through real-life cases, do a lot of role-playing and work closely with the BMW and MINI retail centers and retail organisations.

Specialisations.
In addition to general sales skills, salespeople will have additional requirements depending on their department, the size of the retail operation or current framework conditions. For this, we offer needs-oriented specialist modules which will qualify you for new topics.

Certificate.
At the end of the training you will receive a BMW or MINI graduate diploma. It certifies that you have graduated from junior to senior salesperson. In addition, you will have the option of acquiring the 'Certified Car Salesperson' certificate. An interesting detail: Our car salespeople get a company car after just seven months.

How to apply.

You will automatically be entered into the car salesperson programme if you have successfully applied to become a junior salesperson.

You can find vacancies for salespeople in BMW dealerships in our online job market on the BMW Group job site.

Collaborations.

Collaborations.

A boost for recent graduates.

The BMW Group has a long tradition of promoting science and education. We support graduates with up to three years of professional experience when joining the BMW Group with various collaborations.
Our Cross Mentoring programme is primarily aimed at female professionals who we support when starting their careers at the BMW Group.

Cross Mentoring.
The aim of the programme is to support individual women in their first management roles. For one year, young mentees at the start of their careers are provided with a male or female mentor. In this way, women receive valuable advice and feedback from an experienced executive and in this way are supported in considering development opportunities.

The key to the Cross Mentoring programme is that mentor and mentee come from different companies. This means that other corporate and management cultures are also shared. Mentor and mentee meet every four to six weeks.

Networked mentoring.
The programme is supplemented with events and seminars which, in addition to interesting content, also provides important opportunities for the participants to network. Cross Mentoring is designed and coordinated by the consultancy firm, Cross Consult. Since the project was established in 2001, 13 other Munich companies now take part in the project along with the BMW Group.

Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft (Foundation of German Business).

The aim of the Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft (sdw) is to create the best possible conditions for teenagers and young adults starting out on a successful and personally fulfilling career - and to encourage exceptional talents in their studies.

The Foundation was formed in 1994 on the initiative of the Bundesvereinigung der Deutschen Arbeitgeberverbände (BDA) 'Confederation of German Employers' Associations'. In the field of promoting gifted students, the foundation works using the 'Klaus Murmann Fellowship Programme' and the 'Studienkolleg' (college prep) programme. Students are supported with the 'Studienkompass' (study compass) programme and in the 'Schülerakademie' (student academy). The range of activities is supplemented by projects with school directors and companies.
