Responsibility.

PREMIUM THROUGH RESPONSIBILITY.

Oliver Zipse

I firmly believe the fight against climate change and how we use resources will decide the future of our society – and of the BMW Group. That is why we are taking responsibility here and now and making these issues central to our strategic direction. This new strategic direction will be anchored in all divisions – from administration and purchasing to development and production, all the way to sales. We are taking sustainability to the next level.

To be the most successful and sustainable premium manufacturer for individual mobility - that is our aspiration. Our company is committed to a course that is in line with the 1.5 degree target for limiting global warming. To this end, the BMW Group was the first German car manufacturer to join the Business Ambition for 1.5°C of the Science Based Targets Initiative and is committed to the goal of complete climate neutrality across the entire value chain by 2050 at the latest. We also set ourselves clear targets for CO₂ reduction by 2030: looking at the entire life cycle of a vehicle, including production and upstream supply chain, the BMW Group plans to reduce CO₂ emissions per vehicle by at least 40 per cent.

Annual sales of electric and electrified BMW vehicles continue to grow from year to year. We are pleased about this, of course, but the fight against climate change will require further efforts – not to mention, ambitious targets. Massive expansion of e-mobility will play a key role in this: Based on current market forecasts, the BMW Group expects at least 50 percent of its global sales to come from fully-electric vehicles in 2030. Over the next ten years or so, the company will release a total of about ten million fully-electric vehicles onto the roads.
