RECYCLING

For Lisa Pirwitz every empty bin of non-recyclable waste is a success.

Lisa and her Green-Team have set the goal to have all of the assembly production waste recycled by 2012. The short film about Lisa shows how she managed to raise awareness for her project.

All over the world the BMW Group has taken measures to reach the 100% goal by recycling waste as well as avoiding it in the first place:

-  We return all scrap from our press shops directly to the steel producers – so that they can melt it down to make new metal.

-  We use less and less wax and film to protect the surfaces of our new vehicles during delivery by using closed freight cars for rail transportation.

-  At the Leipzig plant we filter tiny metal pieces out of vacuum cleaner bags – so that these can be reused later.

The same approach also applies to conserving water: At our engine plant in Steyr in Austria we have already reached our target to generate zero liters of process wastewater. A closed water cycle and complex filter systems ensure not a single drop is wasted.

Step by step we keep on moving forward until the very last gram of waste has been disposed of through recycling. That is what’s next for us.
