Motorcycle riders in over 130 countries rely on the quality of BMW motorcycles. Every BMW bike rider can order a custom-designed motorcycle from anywhere in the world. A wide array of 17 models, 46 colours and over 500 special features let each customer fulfil his lifelong dream.

The desired BMW is constructed in the BMW motorcycle plant in Berlin. Multi-million-Euro investments for the future have shown BMW’s commitment for the plant right in the middle of Berlin - one of the most important companies in the German capital with about 1,900 employees. Since 1969 motorcycles are constructed on the 180,000m² large area - more than 10.000 motorcycles a year. The spectrum ranges from single-, two- and four- to six-cylinder power units, as well as the new maxi-scooter.

The most modern motorcycle manufacturing plant in the world.
The BMW plant in Berlin uses state-of-the-art technology. Take ergonomics, for example: The heart of the new motorcycle assembly line is a feed system with unique ceiling conveyor hooks which can be swivelled up to 180 degrees and programmed for ergonomically optimal working conditions.

Take process control, for example: Motorcycles are put on their own unique ceiling conveyor hooks and automatically steered through the entire assembly process. Precisely tracking each conveyor hook in the production process and documenting the completion stage of the motorcycle currently on it creates a previously unachieved level of transparency for each assembly step.

Take production technology, for example: Environmentally friendly water-based paints, a high degree of flexibility and quality ensured by exceptionally qualified employees is the key to production. The most modern 5-axis processing centres, a 10-axis laser cutting facility as well as a new motor assembly system with integrated testing technology enable every motorcycle to emerge from the plant as a unique model.

Truly an outstanding story of success that has reached yet another highlight in May 2011: the two millionth BMW motorcycle built in Berlin, an elaborately painted R 1200 GS, rolled off the line and was given to the winner of the “be Berlin” industrial quiz.
