Machining technicians make true to size, precisely sized parts from iron, other metals and plastics using milling machines (often computer-controlled) or drilling and machining centres as one-offs or in series. They primarily make parts by milling, but also by turning and drilling. Their work includes planning a production process using documents (some of which they have been produced themselves), producing and improving programs for computer-controlled milling machines and machine tools, setting machines and machine systems, operating the machines and monitoring the process of production and the quality of the products and finally identifying and eliminating errors and faults.
They control use highly complicated, conventional and CNC machines for milling workpieces and are familiar with the extremely rapidly developing technologies for the electronic control of production processes.
