Model mechanic, specialisation: Bodyshell

Many new developments of models, body parts and tools are based on work by this profession. This means that CAD constructions are made into plastic and wooden models, which are used to make the casting moulds, for example for engine blocks and alloy wheels.

You will build models and form studies using construction drawings, sketches, originals or pictures, for example for wind tunnels and for prototype production. You must be able to read drawings and sketches and produce workshop drawings with all the construction instructions for this. Before machining, all the stages of the production process are set out in a material list and model plan.

The models are made by hand or by computer-controlled, multi-axis milling machines. Model mechanics use the most diverse range of tools for machining wood, plastic and metal.
