The development team in Japan works in close cooperation at two locations in Japan. One of them is at BMW's Japan Headquarters right in the centre of Tokyo and the other is at the Makuhari Test Center.
The test team conducts car and component tests under typical Japanese driving conditions that customers experience. This guarantees that products conform to specifically Japanese needs and that valuable information is passed on to the development team in Germany.
The engineers at BMW Engineering Japan develop products and features specific to Japan in close cooperation with Marketing and After Sales. Their focus is on electronics and software. The local development department supplies the know-how necessary for local customer relationships and ensures the flow of information to and from headquarters in Munich.
In addition, the homogolation team, together with their colleagues in Munich, ensures compliance with Japanese laws and regulations and cooperates with the Japanese authorities to certify BMW vehicles and production facilities.
